Frameless glass balustrades
Fusion Glass Ltd supplies high-quality frameless glass balustrades designed to deliver a clean, modern aesthetic while providing safety across a wide range of applications. Frameless systems are commonly used on balconies, decking, patios, staircases, and floor edges where uninterrupted views and natural light are a priority.
As part of our wider range of glass balustrades, frameless systems remove visible posts and rails to create a seamless structural glass barrier. These systems are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use and are supplied to meet current UK building regulations.
Whether your project is modern or traditional, our frameless glass balustrades are designed to complement any architectural style, delivering a clean, minimalist finish without compromising on strength or safety.

Frameless Glass Balustrade Design and Aesthetic
Frameless glass balustrades create a clean, modern safety barrier with no visible posts or rails, giving completely uninterrupted views and letting natural light flow through a space.
They are among the most popular choices for balconies, terraces, decking, staircases, and floor edges in both contemporary and traditional properties, where openness and architectural clarity matter. They also suit Juliet balconies, where a single panel sits across a set of doors or windows.
At Fusion Glass Ltd, we supply high-quality frameless glass balustrade systems and bespoke laminated glass panels, cut to size and delivered across the UK.
As a supply-only specialist, we provide everything you need, from base channels and wedge kits to finishing trims and compatible glass, to create a strong, compliant, seamless glass barrier for indoor or outdoor use, with expert support from specification through to delivery.

What Is a Frameless Glass Balustrade?
A frameless glass balustrade is a structural glass barrier that secures the glass panels in a base channel rather than between stainless steel posts or behind a handrail.
The glass is mechanically held using dry-glaze wedge technology, which locks each panel firmly in place and allows precise alignment without adhesives or wet glazing. Because the panels carry the structural load themselves, frameless systems use thicker laminated safety glass and deliver 100% uninterrupted views with no vertical supports to break the sightline.
Frameless systems suit both indoor and outdoor use and are supplied to meet current UK building regulations, making them a refined, code-compliant choice for balconies, staircases, decking and internal floor edges.
Frameless Glass Balustrade Design and Aesthetic
Frameless glass balustrades are chosen for their elegant simplicity and architectural impact. With no posts or rails interrupting the view, they allow light to flow freely while maintaining a strong safety barrier, which is why they are so popular for modern homes, balconies and terraces.
The same discreet, minimalist finish also complements traditional properties where an unobtrusive solution is wanted. Compared with post and handrail glass balustrades, frameless systems prioritise openness and minimal structure.
While some visible support is acceptable, semi-frameless designs with minimal clamps or slim posts offer a middle ground, but a fully frameless channel system delivers the cleanest possible result.

Frameless Glass Balustrade System Comparison
Our Frameless Glass Balustrade System
A frameless glass balustrade system secures the glass in a structural aluminium base channel using adjustable wedges. Fusion Glass Ltd supplies three proven channel systems, Wedge-Loc Slim, Wedge-Loc Duo and POSIglaze, each offering different sightlines, adjustability and installation speed.
All three are supplied as complete solutions, including the aluminium base channel, wedge kits, finishing trims and laminated glass panels cut to your exact dimensions.
Wedge-Loc Slim
Wedge-Loc Slim uses a reduced-profile aluminium channel for the slimmest possible sightlines, making it the choice for premium, minimal designs on balconies, terraces, patios and raised decking. It is a fully mechanical, dry-glaze wedge system that needs no adhesives, clamps or handrails and remains adjustable even after the glass is in place. The tighter sightlines call for slightly more precise installation, but the result is a sleek, discreet, fully compliant balustrade.
Wedge-Loc Duo
Wedge-Loc Duo is our most versatile and widely specified system, using inner and outer wedges to grip the glass with excellent holding power. It offers outstanding adjustability, including fine-tuning after installation, and performs reliably across a wide range of substrates and locations, from domestic balconies to commercial stair voids. Its sightlines are slightly wider than Wedge-Loc Slim but still clean, making it the best all-round balance of strength, adjustability and finish.
POSIglaze
POSIglaze is a streamlined channel system designed for speed and simplicity. With fewer components and wedge-style dry glazing, it installs rapidly once the channel is fixed, making it ideal for installers working to time and for straightforward base surfaces such as timber decking or concrete. It delivers the same clean, frameless look, with slightly wider sightlines and less fine adjustment after fitting than Wedge-Loc Duo.
Wedge-Loc Slim vs Wedge-Loc Duo vs POSIglaze
The table below summarises how the three systems compare.

Choose Wedge-Loc Slim for the most minimal sightlines and a premium finish; Wedge-Loc Duo for all-round versatility, strength, and adjustability; or POSIglaze for a fast, installer-friendly fit that still looks fully frameless. If you are unsure, our team can advise on system selection, glass thickness and layout planning.
Glass Thicknesses and Safety Glass Options
Glass thickness is critical in a frameless balustrade because, with no posts or handrail for support, the panels themselves provide the structural strength. Frameless systems use toughened laminated glass, made from multiple layers of toughened glass bonded together with an interlayer, so the panel remains intact and continues to act as a barrier even if it is damaged.
The most common thicknesses are 17.5mm and 21.5mm laminated glass, with the right specification depending on the balustrade height, the application and building regulations.
As a guide, 17.5mm toughened laminated glass suits many balcony and stair applications, while 21.5mm toughened laminated glass is used for fully frameless systems and taller or higher-load installations. We cut every panel to your exact dimensions and confirm the correct thickness for your project.
For projects where a post-based system may be more suitable, you can also consider our post-and-glass balustrades.
Frameless Glass Balustrade Components
Our frameless glass balustrade systems are supplied as complete kits, so every part fits together correctly.
A typical system includes the aluminium base channel in base-fix or side-fix options, inner and outer wedge kits, end caps, internal and external corners, and finishing trims or cover plates to conceal the fixings, as well as toughened laminated glass panels cut to size.
Where a top handrail is required, a slotted-tube handrail with matching joiners, corners, and wall connectors can be added. Channels and trims are available in silver and black, and handrails and posts can be supplied in popular finishes such as anthracite grey to match your scheme.
Glass Finishes and Colours
Frameless glass balustrades can be finished to suit any setting. Clear toughened laminated glass offers uninterrupted views; low-iron glass delivers the clearest finish by removing the faint green tint of standard glass; and frosted or tinted glass adds privacy or cuts glare.
All panels are supplied with polished edges for safety, a refined appearance, and easy-clean coatings can be specified to reduce water marks and maintenance on exposed outdoor balustrades.
Building Regulations for Frameless Glass Balustrades
Frameless glass balustrades must comply with UK building regulations and the relevant safety standards, including BS 6180 for barriers and BS EN 12150 for toughened glass.
Barriers protecting a change in level must reach a minimum height of 1100mm for external balconies and 900mm for internal stairs and landings, and any balustrade protecting a drop of 600mm or more must use laminated safety glass.
Because the glass is structural, the correct thickness and a solid, level fixing surface are essential. We supply compliant systems and laminated glass and will advise on specification, with installation carried out competently to ensure a safe, code-compliant barrier.
Installation Overview
Frameless systems are installed by fixing the aluminium channel to a solid, level substrate, with concrete or steel ideal and timber suitable where properly reinforced, then setting the glass on rubber blocks and locking it in place with the wedges, leaving a small gap between panels for movement.
The glass should be measured after the channel is fitted for the best accuracy, and the panels are heavy enough to need two people to handle safely. We provide dedicated step-by-step installation guides for Wedge-Lok Duo, Wedge-Lok Slim and POSIglaze to support a clean, accurate fit.
